Bride in a saree

Saree jacket (back)
Sri Lankan Bride

This bride is dressed in a white saree has worked with golden color. This jacket is a whale bone jacket and has a coded back. I have to say something about the sleeve. It is a small sleeve and if you have had a jacket like this may be you have the experience, that the sleeve always falls down from your shoulder. But in my jackets it never happens and I never get complains. It is a perfect fit.

Bridesmaid saree color

For lot of  brides this is a very difficult problem. What should be the bridesmaid saree color?, Should I pick a dark color or a light color?, What are my options?.

Most of all you have to pick a color you like, in the end it’s your wedding. The saree color of the bridesmaids will be the color of your flower girls and the flower arrangements.

You will want your bridesmaids to look pretty in the saree they wear, but shouldn’t highlight them more than yourself. These days bridesmaids are almost all the time dressed in two colors. So you can mix a light color and a dark color or two shades of the same color.
Light blue, pale green, yellow and lavender are mostly used colors. Also it is a good idea to ask your bridesmaids what color looks best on them. And consider their skin colors and be careful when picking colors for darker skinned maids.

For the lighter yellowish skin tones I consider cool pastel colors, royal blue, blue greens, lemon yellow and fuchsia(light purple). And for the darker skinned maids orange based reds, golden colors and turquoise are good colors.

If your function is at night darker colors suits the best. And most of all talk to your beautician and get advice and tell what’s in your mind and present your bridesmaids. He or she will give you considerable amount of advice.

Flower girls dresses

These flower girls are in the matching colors to the bridesmaids, I posted in my last posts. The yellow and golden color dress has a simple work on the top and it is in two pieces. And in the red one the work is very similar to the bridesmaid jacket and have a halter neck line. The skirt part is similar in both dresses and have a nice Rose in the front.

A SRI LANKAN BRIDESMAID

Stone worked saree jacket

In my opinion bridesmaids add an extra elegant to your wedding.  The colors of their dress or saree depends on brides taste most of the time. This bridesmaid saree and the jacket are in two different colors. But the stone work and the flower bouquet has blend this two colors and gave it a nice touch. I must mention the work in the saree jacket. I don’t glue any stone or sequin, all are individually sawn  in to the jacket. For those who doesn’t know much about  the difference, the glued work tends to fall off, in the end of the day you will lose few stones.  Also it looks messy as the glue can be seen. On the other hand sawn work is durable don’t have to be scared to wash and also very neat.  In here work is not much expand but got a very rich look.

Sri Lankan Bride dressed in Kandyan

This long sleeved whalebone saree jacket is done taking in consider  the bride’s body. She is very pretty and fuller than a size medium.  To make her look bit thinner this trick works perfectly. And I incorporated the work in the saree to the blouse for a maximum effect. I took these picture when she is getting ready for her big day. If I get the professional  pretty photos in future I will post them for sure.

It is really up to the bride and to the beautician to decide how the bridesmaid should dress.  This bridesmaids are dressed in kandyan. These are made-up kandyans in raw silk. And I beautifully worked the borders and the saree jackets while blending two colors. As the bridesmaids shouldn’t highlight very much the work is not very heavy but noticeable. The colors are very alive and traditional.

what is a whalebone saree jacket?

(first fit-on trial)
As for many this is still a mystery, I thought of writing a bit about the whale bone saree jacket. First of all what is whale bone?, is it really the bone of a whale?, No . It is not a bone. It is a stiff hair like material in whales mouth. Anyway this material is not in use any more as whale killing has been banned.  A flexible plastic strip is used instead of the whalebone. This plastic strip holds the jacket in its place. This jacket is inspired by the Victorian time undergarment corset. Corset is worn by women and men at that time period to get thinner waist line. This under garment was worn by help of another person to tight it as much as possible. The modern saree jacket is not what it used to be as a corset but a very comfortable garment. This type of saree jacket is better looking and another method of making you look prettier.

How to choose a saree? (tips for a Sri Lankan bride)

This is the most problematic decision for a bride. When choosing a saree bride should think about few important things..

Color scheme- If it is for your wedding day probably you  want to go in to a light color. Lot of brides prefer white or colors very close to white. For the going away and for the home coming it can be vary to your own taste. It is best to talk to your beautician and decide which color suites you the best.

Saree work- Choose a saree that matches your jewelry. For example don’t buy a sree has worked with gold incorporated if you are wishing to wear silver jewelries.  And you can decide how heavy the work to be. Heavily  worked sarees look good in the pictures and capture the eyes of your guests. But if it weights a lot it can be very difficult for you to enjoy your day.

Budget- One of the most important thing is how much you are wishing to spend on your saree. Keep that in mind it is the most important day of your life, but at the same time it is a saree you won’t wear after that. So don’t be shy to spend but spend it wisely.

Jacket piece- In most sarees we can see there is an extra piece of saree to cut out and use for the saree jacket.  Always control whether it is there or not. It is best to have it, in order not to get the color difference in the saree and the jacket.

A BEAUTIFUL GIRL IN A BEAUTIFUL DRESS

Sri Lankan Bridal by Ruvini Makalanda

It is either a wedding or an engagement party, it has the same importance. This whalebone saree jacket was  done for an engagement function.  You can see how her body curves has been enhanced from the jacket. A  jacket incorporated with whalebone gives a very upright look. It also makes someone bit overweight looks thinner and slimmer. I recommend this type of saree jacket to everyone.
And I have to mention about the work on the jacket  too. The work in the saree has incorporated to the jacket, on the sleeves, in front and around the neckline. Back of the jacket is coded to get the perfect fit.
